Sharply criticizing the governance of BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar stated that the party has completely destabilized administrative order within just eight months. Speaking as the chief guest at an election rally held at Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School ground on Saturday afternoon, Porwar claimed that public trust has eroded rapidly, highlighting the resignation of four ministers and MPs within this brief tenure as evidence of institutional instability.
Addressing the crowd ahead of the Thakurgaon-1 constituency by-election, the Jamaat leader alleged that development projects valued at 30 to 40 thousand crore taka were disproportionately awarded to the relatives of influential ministers. He contended that extortion networks dominated by local BNP and affiliated wing leaders have entrenched themselves across the region, while accusing elements within the administration of hypocrisy regarding anti-narcotics enforcement.
Turning to agricultural and public sector grievances, Porwar pointed out ongoing crises regarding fertilizer distribution and rising living costs. He alleged that dealership allocations were heavily politicized, involving bribes ranging from 1.0 to 1.2 million taka per license to favor family associates. He questioned the economic competence of the administration, pointing to frequent hikes in fuel prices alongside persistent shortages of gas and electricity.
Concluding his speech, Porwar urged local voters to carefully assess their leadership options in the upcoming by-election, warning that unchecked patronage politics would only siphon off local development funds. The scathing critique underscores escalating political friction between former allies as regional by-elections approach in the northern belt.
“Golam Porwar's aggressive remarks underscore intensifying political rivalry surrounding the upcoming by-elections, as Jamaat seeks to leverage governance challenges, corruption claims, and public utility crises to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment.”
