Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian has urged government employees to ensure that citizens receive services without harassment, emphasizing that civil servants must establish themselves as the ultimate pillar of public trust. Speaking as the chief guest at a dengue prevention kit distribution program held at the Anwara Upazila Parishad premises on Saturday, he reiterated that people should feel relieved and respected whenever they visit public offices to resolve their grievances.
Emphasizing efficiency and workplace accountability, the DC noted that holding a public office is not just about logging attendance during office hours, but about genuine dedication to public welfare. Reminding officials that institutional power is temporary, he stressed that only their meaningful contributions to society will be remembered. He called on civil servants to discard bureaucratic excuses, listen attentively to service seekers, and adopt a humane demeanor within the boundaries of the law.
Highlighting ongoing administrative and municipal hygiene initiatives, the Deputy Commissioner shared that sanitation drives have been conducted every Saturday across the district under special government directives. Notably, a historic buildup of 250 truckloads of garbage accumulated over 14 years at the Chattogram District Sports Association area was recently cleared. He also underscored the absolute need for financial transparency and superior engineering standards in all public infrastructure projects.
Presided over by Anwara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mohin Uddin, the meeting was attended by senior district and upazila administrators. Following the session, an anti-dengue awareness procession marched from the UNO office to the Anwara Police Station, concluding with an on-site cleanup operation targeting water hyacinths and overgrown brush around the local precinct pond.
“The Chattogram DC's direct directives emphasize responsive grassroots governance. By urging public servants to eliminate administrative rigidity and treat citizens with empathy, the administration is pushing for practical, citizen-centric accountability in public delivery mechanisms.”
