In a message marking United Nations Day, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir affirmed the nation's steadfast dedication to multilateralism, emphasizing the need for an accountable, transparent, and representative global body that accurately reflects contemporary realities, particularly within the UN Security Council.
Highlighting the domestic governance framework, the State Minister noted that the government remains resolute in consolidating democratic norms, human rights, and the rule of law. He described the election of Bangladesh's Foreign Minister as the President of the 81st UN General Assembly as a testament to Dhaka's revitalized global engagement. Beyond peacekeeping, Bangladesh continues to partner closely with UN bodies in areas of sustainable development, disaster resilience, and poverty alleviation.
Addressing the humanitarian front, Kabir drew attention to Bangladesh's hospitality in sheltering more than 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar, urging sustained global diplomatic action for their safe, voluntary, and durable repatriation.
