Cambodia and Croatia have signed two landmark agreements aimed at waiving visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders and enhancing institutional cooperation in diplomatic education. The signing ceremony took place in Phnom Penh, where Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn and Croatia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman signed on behalf of their respective governments, according to Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the two foreign ministers held a bilateral meeting to review the progression of their diplomatic relationship. The event carries special significance as both nations mark the 30th anniversary of establishing formal diplomatic ties this year, reflecting on three decades of growing mutual understanding and international cooperation.
During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties. The Cambodian Foreign Ministry highlighted that the agreements will not only ease travel logistics for officials but also enable structured capacity-building, allowing diplomatic academies from both nations to exchange expertise and train future foreign service officers jointly.
Diplomatic analysts view this development as a constructive bridge connecting Southeast Asia and Southeast Europe. By removing bureaucratic visa procedures for state representatives and investing in joint training, Cambodia and Croatia are laying the groundwork for broader future engagement across trade, tourism, and multilateral affairs.
“This agreement extends beyond administrative ease for civil servants, serving as a strategic bridge between ASEAN and the European Union. Commemorating 30 years of diplomatic relations through institutional training and mobility agreements sets a stable foundation for long-term bilateral diplomacy and economic outreach.”
