School Academy Superintendent Hacked to Death in Rangpur

In Kaunia upazila of Rangpur, Fakhrul Alam Ratan (50), an official at an educational institution, was brutally hacked to death by attackers. Ratan served as the superintendent of Noshik Trust Academy in Pirgachha. The incident took place at Haricharan Laskar village when he went to visit his ailing mother. Family members alleged that miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons near a local tea stall.

According to family sources, Ratan resided in Natabari, Pirgachha, due to his job commitments, while his younger brother stayed in their ancestral village. Relatives claimed that their family had been facing persistent harassment and threats following recent political shifts, noting past incidents of vandalism and looting at their residence. They believe the murder was a premeditated outcome of longstanding enmity.

A somber atmosphere enveloped the village when Ratan's body was returned home following an autopsy on Tuesday. His teenage daughter broke down in tears, demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. Relatives expressed deep anguish, stating that a local gang had been terrorizing their family despite previous complaints to local authorities.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaunia Police Station, Badal Kumar Mondal, stated that a formal case has been registered regarding the murder. Police drives are currently underway to uncover the motive and arrest those involved in the crime. Following the post-mortem examination, the victim was buried in the family graveyard.
