Family members of martyrs and individuals injured during the July mass uprising have demanded the reinstatement of Ishraque Hossain as the State Minister for Liberation War Affairs. The demand was made during a press conference organized at the National Press Club under the banner of 'Martyrs' Families, Injured, and Fighters of July Mass Uprising'. Speakers stated that if restoring Ishraque to his post is not feasible, an eligible individual from among the martyrs' families or wounded fighters should be entrusted with the portfolio.
A written statement presented at the conference emphasized that since assuming office, Ishraque Hossain had played an active and supportive role in securing the rights and welfare of victims' families. His sudden resignation has sparked deep concerns among the families, who fear that ongoing support initiatives and welfare projects might now face administrative stagnation. Around 40 members and injured participants attended the briefing, seeking prompt government attention.
Speaking on behalf of the families, AKM Rakibul Ahmed, father of the late July martyr Ramiz Uddin Ahmed, highlighted that Ishraque had made swift progress on several unresolved issues, including securing permanent burial grounds for martyrs. He appealed to authorities to either persuade Ishraque Hossain to return or appoint a dedicated, educated, and ethical representative who has actively worked with the July victims, possibly from the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation.
The ongoing restructuring within the administration following the July uprising continues to draw widespread attention. This direct demand from martyrs' families places the spotlight on high-level decision-makers, as stakeholders anticipate that the government will honor the sacrifices made during the revolution by appointing compassionate and action-oriented leadership to the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.
“The transition following the July uprising highlights the delicate balance between victim expectations and administrative changes. Ishraque Hossain's exit has triggered genuine apprehensions about welfare continuation. The call to appoint a representative directly from martyrs' families exerts moral and administrative pressure on the government to resolve the leadership vacuum thoughtfully.”
