Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Yusuf Ali has been abruptly withdrawn and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration. Following the immediate release order issued on Tuesday night, he handed over his responsibilities and departed from Rajshahi. Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Rezaul Alam Sarker has taken charge as the acting commissioner.
The incident stems from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to Rajshahi on Tuesday. Video footage that circulated on social media showed the commissioner allegedly breaking formal protocol lines and leaning awkwardly toward the Prime Minister at Shah Makhdum Airport during the departure ceremony, sparking widespread scrutiny over state etiquette.
Amid growing concern over the breach, the Ministry of Public Administration instructed him to report to Dhaka immediately. When inquired, the State Minister for Public Administration stated that the transfer was carried out due to administrative reasons. Yusuf Ali departed Rajshahi late Tuesday night by road and reported to the capital by Wednesday morning.
This swift disciplinary measure underscores the government's strict stance on maintaining formal protocol and professional decorum among senior civil servants. Administrative observers believe that a regular full-time divisional commissioner will soon be appointed to lead the Rajshahi regional administration.
“Adhering to strict protocol during high-profile state visits is fundamental for senior bureaucrats. The swift withdrawal of a divisional chief highlights a firm administrative precedent against breaches of official decorum.”
