US Vice President JD Vance has openly refused to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming elections. In an interview with journalist Mark Halperin, Vance stated clearly that he is neither endorsing Netanyahu nor opposing him, noting that he does not want to get involved in Israel's domestic politics and prefers focusing on American candidates.
This position emerged just one day after US President Donald Trump publicly voiced support for Netanyahu. Although Vance previously backed foreign leaders—such as former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban back in April—he maintained that his current political focus remains strictly on the domestic midterm elections in the United States.
Vance's careful stance has triggered discussion within the Republican party. While President Trump has maintained intimate relations with Netanyahu's right-wing administration, Vance previously cautioned Israel that killing people cannot be the only answer to solving security challenges, also warning Netanyahu not to alienate Donald Trump.
Analysts suggest Vance, widely viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender, is mirroring growing fatigue among American voters over endless foreign conflicts. Rising consumer costs tied to Middle Eastern wars have driven frustration within the Republican base, prompting younger leadership to reconsider unconditional foreign endorsements.
“JD Vance's refusal to endorse Netanyahu illustrates an evolving shift within the Republican party's foreign policy wing, displaying a reluctance to automatically rubber-stamp Israeli leadership ahead of future domestic elections.”
