Police have arrested a 42-year-old madrasa teacher, Sayeed Hossain alias Nannu, on charges of attempting to rape a 9-year-old female student inside an office room in Daulatpur, Kushtia. The accused is an instructor at Darul Abrar Madrasa located in Pakuria village under Pragpur union, where the victim is enrolled in the third grade. After completing necessary legal procedures, police produced the accused before the court.
According to police and local sources, special coaching sessions were being held at the madrasa in preparation for an upcoming competition. On the afternoon of October 14, after other students left, Sayeed Hossain allegedly tricked the girl into the administrative office and bolted the door from inside. When the child screamed while resisting the assault, fellow students and nearby local women rushed to the scene, prompting the accused teacher to flee the room in panic.
Following the occurrence, certain local elements attempted an informal compromise to cover up the incident. Refusing to yield to local mediation pressures, the victim's mother lodged a formal complaint at Daulatpur Police Station on October 20. Police acted promptly, registering a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and conducting a late-night raid to apprehend the accused teacher.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman confirmed that the arrest was executed promptly following the mother's formal complaint, and the accused has been forwarded to court. Legal protections and formal statements for the victim are being processed. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread anger among local guardians and residents, who are demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrator.
“Ensuring the safety of young children within educational institutions must remain a top priority. In this Daulatpur incident, while local attempts to hush up the crime were evident, the mother's firm resolve and swift police intervention set a necessary precedent. Strict accountability without compromise is essential to safeguarding children in both religious and secular schooling environments.”
