Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from a sidewalk in front of Motiur Rahman Park in the Gulistan area of the capital. Early on Saturday morning, passersby and patrol officers noticed the individual lying unresponsive and immediately coordinated to provide emergency medical attention.
Around 6:30 am, a patrol team from the Sergeant Ahad Police Outpost spotted the unconscious man and alerted Paltan Model Police Station. Sub-Inspector Avi and his team rushed to the spot, secured the victim, and transported him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital by 8:10 am, where duty physicians officially pronounced him dead. The deceased is estimated to be around 40 years old.
Investigating officers suspect the death might have been triggered by severe illness or exposure on the street. To ascertain the exact cause of death beyond doubt, the body has been preserved in the DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Paltan police have also engaged specialized investigative units to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene Unit have collected fingerprint samples to trace the victim's identity through national biometric databases. Authorities confirmed that once identification is established, relatives will be notified for formal handover, while final forensic reports will settle any further legal inquiries.
“Unattended deaths on busy city streets underscore persistent gaps in public health outreach and urban social safety nets. Prompt biometric tracking and reinforced local policing remain vital to safeguarding marginalized street populations.”
