Police arrested 13 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League within hours of staging a sudden flash rally in Feni. On Thursday morning, 25 to 30 youths held the procession near Kalipal Dashamighat in the suburbs under the banner of Feni Sadar Upazila Chhatra League. Led by local BCL general secretary Belal Hossain, the group quickly marched a short distance along the road before dispersing.
Witnesses and local sources reported that participants carried national flags alongside BCL organizational flags. Many of the demonstrators wore yellow caps and black face masks while chanting slogans in support of the Awami League, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Feni-1 lawmaker Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim. A 42-second video clip of the brief march went viral on social media by noon, prompting immediate public attention.
Law enforcement swung into action as soon as the video gained traction online. During midday raids across the Sahadebpur area, police apprehended 13 individuals. The arrestees include youths aged 19 to 22 as well as four 17-year-old minors, all hailing from different parts of Sonagazi upazila in Feni.
Feni Model Police Station Inspector Sajid Kamal confirmed that immediate action was taken following the unlawful gathering by the banned outfit. A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and the detained individuals are being sent to jail through the court. Police added that further drives are underway to trace and apprehend other participants involved in organizing the rally.
“The attempt to stage a flash rally despite an official ban highlights lingering grassroots organizational efforts by the outfit. However, the prompt police response and arrests based on viral footage signal an uncompromising stance by law enforcement against any public resurgence of prohibited groups.”
