Conflict conditions are still persistent along the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh, stated Shatrujeet Kapoor, the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Speaking at a felicitation event in Alwar, Rajasthan, he noted that specialized commando units are actively operating across sensitive frontline flashpoints. Although he did not explicitly mention China by name, defense experts believe his remarks directly pointed to the unresolved tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Notably, a video clip of his speech was swiftly scrubbed from official social media handles shortly after upload.
Reports of tense standoffs between Indian and Chinese forces have surfaced repeatedly since July this year, especially around the remote Taksin area within Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri district. The ITBP remains primarily tasked with guarding the rigorous high-altitude LAC. The police chief's unexpected public revelation has placed renewed scrutiny on New Delhi's border management posture, contrasting sharply with recent diplomatic assertions that both nations were successfully de-escalating military friction.
The remarks immediately triggered a fierce political debate in New Delhi. Indian National Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on platform X, questioning the government's continued silence over actual developments at the frontier. While External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had earlier maintained that both military and diplomatic communication channels remained active, the DG's frank appraisal directly challenged the official narrative of complete normalcy.
The development comes shortly after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, which supposedly hinted at thawing diplomatic relations. However, the ground reality described by the frontier force's top officer indicates deep lingering friction. During his address, Kapoor also cautioned troops to strictly avoid social media entrapment and honey traps while maintaining absolute operational discipline.
“Despite repeated diplomatic reassurances between New Delhi and Beijing, the ITBP DG's candor reveals an uneasy reality on the ground. The abrupt deletion of the speech footage underscores government sensitivity around the LAC dispute, handing the opposition significant political ammunition.”
