Two motorcycle riders lost their lives in a fatal head-on collision between two speeding motorbikes in Pabna Sadar upazila. The tragic accident took place around 8:00 pm on Thursday near the Jalalpur Bazar area under Gayeshpur Union. Two other riders sustained severe injuries and were quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The deceased were identified as Selim Mahmud, 40, a local fish trader and son of the late Mozaffar Hossain from Jalalpur village, and Nayan Mia, 20, son of Abdul Motin Mridha from Shalaipur village. Eyewitnesses and police reported that both motorcycles were moving at uncontrolled speeds along the Jalalpur-Gayeshpur road when they violently collided head-on, killing both individuals on the spot.
Hearing the loud crash, nearby residents rushed to the scene to assist, rescuing the injured and transporting them directly to Pabna General Hospital. Attending physicians provided immediate emergency care, but as one victim's condition deteriorated critically, he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital later that night for specialized treatment.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Monirul Islam of Pabna Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement officials promptly recovered the deceased bodies upon receiving the news. He added that the bodies will be handed over to their respective families following the completion of required legal procedures.
“Reckless speeding on rural and regional roads, combined with a frequent lack of helmet use, remains a primary driver of recurring fatal road crashes. Enforcing speed regulations and community traffic awareness is essential to curb such avoidable tragedies.”
