The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued four urgent directives aimed at maintaining cleanliness and preventing dengue outbreaks in educational institutions across the country. On Tuesday, a circular marked as 'extremely urgent' was dispatched to principals and headmasters of all government and private schools and colleges nationwide, urging immediate compliance.
According to the official circular, school and college authorities must routinely clean classrooms, administrative offices, corridors, rooftops, toilets, and surrounding premises. Special emphasis has been placed on inspecting potential water accumulation zones and draining stagnant water promptly to destroy potential Aedes mosquito breeding spots.
The directive also emphasizes organizing awareness campaigns by actively involving teachers, students, and institutional staff. Alongside vector control measures, heads of institutions have been asked to uphold overall institutional discipline, ensure hygienic surroundings, and maintain administrative readiness at all times.
This administrative push comes after recent surprise visits to several prominent educational institutions in Dhaka. DSHE has indicated that field-level education officials will routinely monitor institutions across the country to verify whether these health and cleanliness protocols are being strictly implemented.
“Maintaining hygienic school grounds is a vital proactive step in curbing seasonal dengue outbreaks. Strict enforcement of these DSHE directives will not only safeguard students' health but also reinforce institutional accountability regarding campus sanitation.”
