Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a significant consignment of smuggled Indian liquor and arrested two men during a targeted operation in Dewanganj, Jamalpur. The raid took place early Thursday along the Dhaka-Rowmari highway in the Madhyerchar area under Parramrampur Union, where a Dhaka-bound private car was intercepted based on intelligence inputs from the 35 BGB Jhaodanga border outpost.
The detainees have been identified as Ripon Saha from Tangail Sadar and Alal Uddin from Kaliakair, Gazipur. A thorough inspection of the vehicle uncovered 215 concealed bottles of Indian liquor. According to the BGB, the estimated market value of the confiscated contraband and vehicle stands at approximately BDT 14,36,300, indicating an organized pipeline targeting urban markets.
Lieutenant Colonel Hasanur Rahman, Commander of Jamalpur 35 BGB, confirmed the development, emphasizing that heightened vigilance continues along the borders to suppress smuggling networks. The suspects, along with the seized car and illicit goods, were formally transferred to Dewanganj Model Police Station for regular processing.
Dewanganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain stated that formal charges are being filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Following initial questioning and paperwork, the suspects will be produced before the court, while investigators work to trace the upstream and downstream links of the racket.
“The use of private passenger vehicles to transport contraband from frontier districts to central metropolitan hubs reflects persistent smuggling adaptations, highlighting the necessity of sustained intelligence sharing and dynamic highway checkpoints.”
