Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has alleged that the government has taken no meaningful steps to address long-standing laboratory shortages, outdated equipment, and curriculum issues in diploma engineering education. Central President Nurul Islam made the remarks as the chief guest at the '6th Diploma Summit' held at the Al Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka, on Friday morning.
Addressing the gathering, Nurul Islam stated that the diploma curriculum remains unresolved for years while students suffer from an acute shortage of labs and modern tools. He emphasized that despite diploma engineers being the backbone of national infrastructure and industry, authorities show indifference toward fixing these issues. He urged students to develop technical expertise anchored in moral integrity.
The day-long summit also hosted a dedicated panel discussion titled 'Career Thoughts and Job Opportunities for Diploma Engineers,' featuring industry experts and professional engineers. Speakers highlighted the need for ethical conduct, time management, and professional competence, demanding fair job market evaluation and institutional upgrades for technical graduates.
The conference was attended by Shibir's Secretary General Sibgatullah and several central office bearers, alongside senior engineers and educators. Concluding the event, speakers urged policymakers to prioritize technical education as a critical pillar for Bangladesh's sustainable development and resolve the diploma sector's core challenges without delay.
“Improving technical and diploma education is vital for industrial growth. Without modernizing curricula and addressing lab infrastructure, developing a globally competitive workforce will remain difficult.”
