Two Friends Killed in Purbachal Expressway Truck Collision

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two close friends on the Purbachal 300-feet expressway in Rupganj, Narayanganj, on Thursday night. The fatal crash took place near the Bhuiyabari Bridge area when their motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming truck. Another youth riding with them sustained critical injuries. The deceased were identified as Rudra Mia of Dighirpar and Yasin of Bellartek in Rupganj upazila, while the injured youth, Srabon Mia, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

According to police and local eyewitnesses, the three young friends had gone out for a recreational ride around Purbachal on an unregistered motorcycle. While crossing the west side of Bhuiyabari Bridge, they were driving the wrong way along the expressway service lane. During this time, an unidentified truck coming from the opposite direction struck the motorcycle directly. The force of the impact destroyed the two-wheeler and killed two riders instantly on the road.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, AHM Salauddin, confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement personnel quickly arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and ensured immediate medical care for the injured passenger. The police official also mentioned that the truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle right after the collision. Authorities have contacted the families of the victims and initiated standard legal procedures.

Reckless driving against traffic flow on expressways continues to pose severe risks to commuters despite ongoing safety warnings. Rupganj police stated that they are examining CCTV footage along the expressway corridor to identify the fleeing truck and apprehend its driver. Law enforcement has also reiterated the need for strict enforcement against unregistered vehicles and illegal wrong-way driving in the expressway area.
