The Jatiyatabadi ICT Forum (NICTF) has announced a 103-member full committee aimed at revitalizing Bangladesh's information and communication technology sector and establishing a robust global presence. According to a press release issued on Wednesday, Engineer Rafael Kabir has been appointed President, while Engineer Md. Mamun Or Rashid takes charge as General Secretary. The committee predominantly comprises experienced technology professionals.
Alongside the executive body, an eight-member advisory panel has been constituted, headed by Chief Advisor Professor AKM Wahiduzzaman. Prominent political analyst Dr. Maroof Mallick and Member of Parliament Engineer Md. Ashraf Uddin Bakul are also part of this advisory council. The forum has set an ambitious milestone to elevate Bangladesh's tech exports to $10 billion over the next five years.
Advisory member Dr. Maroof Mallick stated that the organization aims to free the ICT landscape from partisan influence and make it competitive globally. He emphasized that enhancing professional skills, supporting tech entrepreneurs, and expanding software exports are critical to creating sustainable domestic jobs and attracting foreign direct investment.
General Secretary Md. Mamun Or Rashid highlighted the necessity of upgrading digital infrastructure and boosting investments in research and development to achieve their ambitious target. He added that cultivating a workforce aligned with international market demands will allow local firms to expand globally, noting that the new leadership will immediately outline priority actions.
“Restoring professionalism in Bangladesh's tech sector remains vital after years of political patronage. While a $10 billion export target is ambitious, achieving it will depend heavily on real workforce skill enhancement, global market integration, and business-friendly policy reforms.”
