The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Milton Samadder, the founder of 'Child and Old Age Care', from Mirpur. He is accused of running various unethical activities and scams under the guise of providing shelter to helpless elderly people and children. Although he received massive donations from people moved by his social media videos, the reality inside the shelter was reportedly very different.
Investigations revealed that Milton forged the signatures of doctors to create around 800 fake death certificates. There is no proper record of how many residents died in his shelter or where they were buried. Furthermore, former employees have accused him of physical abuse against the residents and involvement in child trafficking.
Following his arrest, former workers and victims' families have started speaking out. Police reported finding transactions of millions of Taka in Milton's bank accounts, collected as donations from the public. The Detective Branch has taken him into custody for questioning under remand to uncover the full extent of his operations and identify his accomplices.
This incident has sparked demands for stricter monitoring of private shelters and charity organizations across the country. Citizens are calling for exemplary punishment to prevent such scams in the name of humanity. Police stated that legal action will be taken based on the final investigation, and steps are being taken to relocate the helpless residents to government rehabilitation centers.
