A local BNP leader named Moslem Uddin Hawlader (65) tragically died after a heavy tree branch fell onto his head during tree felling in Bauphal, Patuakhali. The tragic incident took place around 1:30 pm on Wednesday in the courtyard of his residence in Ward No. 1 of Bauphal municipality. The deceased was the son of the late Anali Hawlader and an active member of Bauphal municipal BNP.
According to family and local sources, Moslem Uddin had recently sold several trees from his homestead to a wood trader from the Kalaiya area. On Wednesday afternoon, woodcutters arrived to chop down the trees. While one woodcutter severed a branch from atop the tree, another attempted to lower it using a rope. Unfortunately, the branch slipped out of control and struck Moslem Uddin, who was standing nearby watching the work.
Sustaining severe head trauma, he collapsed immediately. Family members and neighbors rushed him to the Bauphal Upazila Health Complex, where emergency medical officer Dr. Irfan Uddin pronounced him dead upon arrival. The sudden tragedy cast a pall of gloom over the neighborhood and drew widespread condolences across local political circles.
Bauphal Municipal BNP President Humayun Kabir along with other local BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders visited the deceased leader's residence to console the grieving family. Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam stated that law enforcement is aware of the incident, but since the family raised no foul play complaints regarding the accidental death, standard legal procedures were not pursued.
“The lack of essential safety precautions during tree cutting in residential areas often leads to fatal accidents. It is critical to enforce strict safety awareness and maintain safe perimeters during such hazardous tasks.”
