Iran possesses indigenously developed missiles capable of penetrating advanced defense shields to accurately strike US warships, according to a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Major General Mostafa Izadi, deputy commander of the IRGC, confirmed that the technological capabilities and precision of Iran's missile arsenal have expanded significantly, as reported by Iran's Mehr News Agency.
General Izadi emphasized that Iran has not merely expanded the sheer volume of its arsenal, but drastically enhanced missile range and operational effectiveness. Tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated sharply following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory on February 28. In direct response, Tehran launched extensive missile and drone barrages targeting American military installations across Persian Gulf Arab states and Israeli targets.
Subsequent reports from international outlets, including CNN, noted that repeated Iranian strikes inflicted serious infrastructure damage across several US bases in the region, leaving parts of them virtually inoperable. While active exchanges of fire have paused, the US Navy continues to maintain a tight maritime blockade near Iranian ports in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has warned that unless the naval blockade is dismantled, US warships operating in surrounding waters could face direct military strikes. Iranian forces continue to exercise strict maritime control over the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating that any unauthorized passage by commercial or military vessels without prior clearance will encounter swift military interception.
“Controlling the Strait of Hormuz remains central to Iran's defense and leverage over global energy corridors. Threatening US warships reflects Tehran's strategy to deter naval blockades through asymmetric deterrence, raising risks of direct maritime clashes.”
