Allegations of murder have surfaced against security guards of Ajax Jute Mill in the Mirerdanga area under Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna, after a 28-year-old youth named Samrat Dhali died following a brutal beating over alleged theft. Local sources reported that Samrat and two others entered the mill premises on Friday morning; security personnel detained Samrat while his companions managed to flee, after which Samrat was subjected to physical assault.
Samrat, son of Mojibor Dhali from the Fulbari area, worked at a local poultry shop and had reportedly been struggling with psychological distress since the death of his mother. Family members alleged that guards tortured him relentlessly and pushed him off the third floor of the structure. He was subsequently rescued and rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The victim's brother, Sujon Dhali, claimed that the security personnel themselves were involved in stealing mill parts and selling them outside, using his brother as a scapegoat to cover up their crimes. Sujon emphasized that the injuries visible on Samrat's body did not resemble the impact of a fall from height, but rather pointed directly to severe physical torture, demanding a neutral investigation into the tragedy.
Abul Bashar, Officer-in-Charge of Khanjahan Ali Police Station, stated that police intervened upon receiving the news, rescued Samrat, and shifted him to the hospital, where he passed away in the afternoon. Police noted that Samrat had two prior cases recorded against him, while confirming that an impartial inquiry will follow based on formal complaints and the autopsy findings.
