A 25-year-old youth named Shahin Mia was hacked to death by his uncle and cousin over a domestic dispute in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Wednesday afternoon. The tragic incident took place in Khalapara village under Amirganj Union. Shahin, son of Awlad Hossain, was rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital in critical condition, where attending physicians declared him dead.
According to local sources, an altercation broke out between Awlad Hossain's family and his brother Mobarak Hossain over bricks kept near the house. Just three days earlier, Shahin's wife had given birth to a baby boy via caesarean section, and Shahin had taken leave to care for his wife and newborn at the hospital. Returning home briefly to collect food, he witnessed the feud and stepped forward to mediate the argument.
Infuriated by his intervention, his uncle Mobarak Hossain and 17-year-old cousin Rabbi attacked Shahin with sharp domestic weapons. Shahin's grief-stricken father lamented that his son was entirely innocent and only tried to stop the violence. He demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators who robbed a newborn child of its father.
Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station Md. Mojibur Rahman stated that the killing stemmed from a trivial domestic row. He confirmed that police drives are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and legal procedures to file a murder case are ongoing.
“This tragic murder highlights an alarming decay of social tolerance, where trivial domestic rows escalate into fatal violence among close kin. The killing of a young man, who had just welcomed his first child, demands swift police action and exemplary justice to send a strong message against unchecked domestic brutality.”
