A local leader of the Chhatra Dal has lost his party position after being arrested on extortion charges in Dhaka's Paltan area. The organization suspended him temporarily for violating party discipline. The central committee of Chhatra Dal confirmed the decision through an official press release.
According to the police, the leader was caught red-handed last night while demanding money from local businessmen in the Paltan intersection. Following a formal complaint, a case was filed, and he was shown arrested. As the news spread, the party high command quickly initiated organizational action.
Central leaders of Chhatra Dal stated that there is no room for criminals within the organization. They emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone tarnishing the party's reputation. Meanwhile, local businessmen welcomed the police action and demanded increased security in the area.
The police plan to present the arrested leader in court and seek a remand for further interrogation. Investigators are also checking if other individuals were involved in the extortion ring. Chhatra Dal leaders added that he will be permanently expelled if proven guilty in the investigation.
“The involvement of political activists in criminal activities and subsequent disciplinary action by their parties is a recurring issue. However, swift suspension serves as a strong warning to other members. Such prompt actions can help political organizations maintain their public image and deter internal misconduct.”
