Former US President Donald Trump harbored a peculiar ambition to rename the Atlantic Ocean after himself or the United States, prompting him to call Google CEO Sundar Pichai directly. Speaking at a political rally in South Carolina, Trump disclosed the details of this unusual phone call, admitting that the tech giant's chief executive politely yet firmly turned down his request.

Trump explained to his supporters that among all water bodies, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans held a special appeal for him. This was not his first attempt at altering geographical nomenclature; during his presidency, he had issued executive orders renaming the 'Gulf of Mexico' to the 'Gulf of America' and 'Lake Ontario' to 'Lake America'. At that time, Google Maps had partially incorporated those alterations for US-based users, sparking severe international criticism.

However, Sundar Pichai drew a hard line when it came to renaming an entire ocean.
